Pharmacological properties

Mechanism of Action:
Cefepime is a 4th-generation β-lactam cephalosporin antibiotic with a broad spectrum of activity intended for parenteral use. It exhibits bactericidal action and is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including most strains resistant to aminoglycosides or 3rd-generation cephalosporin antibiotics. Cefepime inhibits the synthesis of enzymes in the bacterial cell wall. The drug is highly resistant to β-lactamase hydrolysis, has low affinity for β-lactamases encoded by chromosomal genes, and rapidly penetrates gram-negative bacterial cells.
