Pharmacological properties
Mechanism of Action:
Cefoperazone sodium is a semi-synthetic third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with a broad spectrum of activity, used exclusively parenterally.
Sulbactam sodium is a derivative of the basic penicillin nucleus. Cefoperazone acts by inhibiting the biosynthesis of the bacterial cell wall’s mucopeptide. Sulbactam functions as a β-lactamase inhibitor, restoring the activity of cefoperazone against β-lactamase-producing strains.

Indications for Use:
The medication is used to treat infections caused by sensitive strains of microorganisms:
– Respiratory tract infections (upper and lower);
– Cholecystitis, cholangitis, peritonitis, and other intra-abdominal infections;
– Urinary tract infections (upper and lower);
– Septicemia;
– Meningitis;
– Skin and soft tissue infections;
– Bone and joint infections;
– Inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs, endometritis, gonorrhea, and other genital infections.
Method of Administration and Dosage:
Macrocef (a combination of sulbactam sodium and cefoperazone sodium) is available in vials and is administered exclusively parenterally.
